There’s never any shortage of drama down on the farm at Emmerdale, but ITV’s annual super soap week always promises just a little bit more.

During this year’s super soap week, a survival challenge became more of a survival mission than the villagers could ever have imagined. A chain of dramatic events left many lives hanging in the balance.

The first emergency situation involved Victoria and David who fell off a collapsing rope bridge into the raging waters below. Despite surviving a frightening drag along the river and grabbing onto some rocks, the current was too strong for Victoria and she was pulled over a huge waterfall. Victoria miraculously survived and was rushed to A&E with suspected secondary drowning, where she was intubated and immediately admitted to intensive care.

The Medical Hire team supported the cast and crew on location with this dramatic stunt, providing paramedic equipment including a defibrillator, oxygen cylinder, a stretcher and head blocks. The team also supplied a range of ICU and HDU equipment to dress the set for the hospital scenes.

Another casualty from the rope bridge collapse was character Charles. Charles and Manpreet were also plunged into the water along with Victoria and David, but managed to climb out, seemingly with only minor injuries. However, it later transpired that Charles had sustained some serious leg lacerations, which required emergency surgery.

For scenes with Charles, Medical Hire provided A&E and surgical ward equipment, including an A&E transfer trolley, vital signs monitor, wall panel, and patient monitor.

The final Emmerdale resident left fighting for their life following super soap week was Priya.

It all started when Andrea saw Meena trying to drown Victoria in the river after the rope bridge collapse. Meena was determined to stop Andrea from reporting her and chased her into a nearby maize maze. During a struggle, a flare gun was fired which set fire to the maize maze. Meena managed to escape but Andrea tragically lost her life.

Priya was also trapped in the fire in the maze and sustained severe burns. She was eventually rescued and rushed to intensive care where she underwent emergency treatment.

Medical Hire were heavily involved in the filming of the scenes with Priya, with specialist medical advisors supporting the cast and crew on a range of elements for the storyline. The team of advisors included paramedics, A&E and ICU professionals, and specialist burns nurses who advised on the injuries and the dressings that would be applied.

For all of the hospital scenes emerging from super soap week on Emmerdale, Medical Hire also provided a range of hospital furniture for the sets. Items included hospital beds and mattresses, wall panels complete with accessories, visitor chairs, overbed tables, and bedside lockers.
